Michelize’s research explores the <a href=\"https://www.wsla.co.uk/our-origins\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Women’s Sports Leadership Academy (WSLA)</a> - a pioneering residential programme that has supported over 450 women from 78 countries in developing as leaders in sport.</p><p><br></p><p>Against a backdrop of ongoing gender imbalance - with only 26% of CEO roles in sport held by women, and a global 3% decrease in female representation on funded sports boards - Michelize examines how WSLA creates a safe, empowering space for growth and connection. Her research draws on the personal stories of participants to disrupt traditional evaluation models, placing lived experience at the centre. Through this work, she aims to understand WSLA's long-term impact on women’s leadership development and the broader transformation of sporting culture.</p><p><br></p><p>You can read a transcript of the conversation <a href=\"https://researchpodcasts.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/10.-Speaking-of-Research-S2-Michelize-van-Heerden-Transcript.pdf\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">here</a>.</p><p><br></p><p>Find out more about the South Coast Doctoral Training Partnership at <a href=\"https://southcoastdtp.ac.uk/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">southcoastdtp.ac.uk</a></p><p><br></p><p>This is a <a href=\"https://researchpodcasts.co.uk/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Research Podcasts</a> production.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Credits:</strong></p><p>Presenter:<strong> </strong><a href=\"https://www.linkedin.com/in/cathmcd11/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Catherine McDonald</a>,&nbsp;Research Podcasts</p><p>Guest: <a href=\"https://www.linkedin.com/in/michelize-van-heerden-572470186/?originalSubdomain=uk\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Michelize van Heerden</a>, University of Chichester</p><p>Producer: <a href=\"https://www.linkedin.com/in/krissie-brighty-glover-72268224b/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Krissie Brighty-Glover</a>, Research Podcasts</p><p>Editor: <a href=\"https://www.linkedin.com/in/anton-jarvis-579b5a82/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Anton Jarvis</a>, Research Podcasts</p><p>Transcripts: <a href=\"https://www.linkedin.com/in/lauren-white-1a585a41/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Lauren White</a>, Research Podcasts</p>","author_name":"The South Coast Doctoral Training Partnership"}
