In the final part of Batavia’s Graveyard, Francisco Pelsaert returns from Java aboard the Sardam to find that Jeronimus Cornelisz has led a reign of terror, murdering more than 216 men, women and children. Only the courage of Wiebe Hayes and his band of survivors, who fought off repeated attacks by the mutineers, prevents Cornelisz from seizing the rescue ship.
