Spring break, 1989. University of Texas pre-med student Mark Kilroy crosses the border into Matamoros, Mexico, for a night of bar hopping with his friends. By morning, he’s gone.
What his family uncovers is something no one could have imagined: a charismatic, Miami-born fortune teller named Adolfo de Jesús Constanzo, who convinced Mexican drug traffickers that human sacrifice would make them bulletproof and invisible to police. At his side was Sara Aldrete, an honour roll college student living a double life as his high priestess, La Madrina.
This week, Chantal walks Ashley through the story of the Narcosatanists: a remote desert ranch, an iron cauldron, a man who drove straight through a police checkpoint because he believed no one could see him, and a final standoff in Mexico City that ended exactly the way the Godfather wanted.
Content warning: this episode discusses ritual murder, mutilation, and drug violence.
