We recorded this episode at LAS Art Foundation offices in Berlin to talk about the exhibition WE FELT A STAR DYING by Laure Prouvost, a newly commissioned art installation at Kraftwerk Berlin that explores quantum phenomena and their sensitivity to cosmic and planetary forces. This work was is part of the LAS Sensing Quantum programme, which explores the implications and possibilities of quantum technologies through new commissions with artists and composers, a symposium, a publication and an ongoing learning programme. Together these efforts bring together artists, scientists, thinkers and the public to engage with this evolving field. We were thrilled to be joined by Zoe Büchtemann from the curatorial team for this conversation spanning quantum theory, the natural world, the role of chance and spontaneity in artistic development, and... chicken feathers!
A century ago, quantum physics revealed that, at the smallest scales, we cannot predict everything about how matter behaves. Particles can exist in multiple states at once, become linked, or even pass through energy barriers. Today, these ideas are the foundation of a number of quantum technologies, which some predict will transform our world in the next five years. WE FELT A STAR DYING is a multi-sensory and immersive environment, including video and sound developed with a quantum computer, as well scent and sculptural elements tuned to quantum phenomena
