Why is something so spectacular so difficult to film?</p><p>In this special crossover episode from our sister podcast <em>Green Frequency</em>, environmental filmmaker and researcher Dr. Isabelle Carbonell takes us to Bio Bay in Vieques, Puerto Rico, one of the brightest bioluminescent bays on Earth.</p><p>Through the science of bioluminescence and the history of underwater cinema, we explore how marine organisms produce light, why cameras struggle to capture it, and what happens when the ocean resists our attempts to make it visible.</p><p>But there&#39;s more to this story than filmmaking. From the colonial history and military contamination of Vieques to questions of environmental justice, perception, and wonder, Dr. Carbonell challenges us to think about what it really means to see, understand, and protect the ocean.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Episode Guest:</strong><a href=\"https://www.aup.edu/profile/mcaballergutierrez\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"> </a><u><a href=\"https://www.aup.edu/profile/mcaballergutierrez\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Dr. Isabelle Carbonell</a></u></p><p>Discover more of Dr. Carbonell&#39;s work on her<a href=\"https://izaca.com/index.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"> </a><u><a href=\"https://izaca.com/index.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">website</a></u>.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Explore Pine Forest Media</strong></p><p>Discover our podcasts and projects at<a href=\"https://pineforestpods.com\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"> </a><u><a href=\"https://pineforestpods.com\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">pineforestpods.com</a></u>.</p><p>Watch the full-length video version of this episode on YouTube<a href=\"https://www.youtube.com/@PineForestPods\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"> </a><u><a href=\"https://www.youtube.com/@PineForestPods\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">@PineForestPods</a></u>.</p><p>Follow us on social media @pineforestmedia.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Production Credits</strong></p><p>Audio Editing: Clark Marchese</p><p>Video Editing: Madelyn Choi Weir</p><p>Videography and Set Design:<a href=\"https://studiodupassage.com/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"> </a><u><a href=\"https://studiodupassage.com/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Le Studio Du Passage</a></u></p><p>Cover Art: Jomiro Eming</p><p>Theme Music:<a href=\"https://nelaruizcomposer.com/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"> </a><u><a href=\"https://nelaruizcomposer.com/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Nela Ruiz</a></u></p><p>Originally produced for <em>Green Frequency</em>, a Pine Forest Media podcast, with support from the American University of Paris.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Support</strong> our science communication directly by <u><a href=\"https://www.pineforestpods.com/engage/support-pfm\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">donating to Pine Forest Media</a></u> or directly on <u><a href=\"https://www.paypal.biz/pineforestmedia\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">PayPal</a></u></p><p><strong>Episode Guests</strong>: Dr. Isabelle Carbonell</p><p>Listen to Pine Forest Media’s NEWEST PODCAST <u><a href=\"https://shows.acast.com/green-frequency\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">GREEN FREQUENCY</a></u></p><p>Episode Transcript and more information on the <u><a href=\"http://pineforestpods.com\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Pine Forest Media </a></u>website</p><p>Follow Pine Forest Media on Instagram <u><a href=\"https://www.instagram.com/pineforestmedia/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">@pineforestmedia</a></u></p><p>Hosted, produced, and edited by Clark Marchese </p><p>Cover art by<u><a href=\"https://jomiro.webflow.io/about\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"> Jomiro Eming</a></u></p><p>Theme music by <u><a href=\"http://nelaruizcomposer.com\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Nela Ruiz</a></u></p><p>Find some more Pine Forest Media podcasts below</p><p>Listen to South Pole on <u><a href=\"https://open.spotify.com/show/292f9HcD3eCI2V6hLQG2Hi\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Spotify</a></u> or <u><a href=\"https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/id1748730442?mt=2\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Apple Podcasts</a></u></p><p>Listen to Something in the Water on <u><a href=\"https://open.spotify.com/show/5HGQytPxV6FfcX03OUBXYf?si=YszhS8C4ToafplCEsEErAQ\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Spotify</a></u> or <u><a href=\"https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/something-in-the-water/id1740586381\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Apple Podcasts</a></u></p>","author_name":"Pine Forest Media | Environmental Science Podcasts"}
