On this episode of the Authors of History Podcast I am joined by Professor Helen McCarthy.
Helen is an author, historian and Professor of Modern and Contemporary British History at the University of Cambridge. Helen writes about the history of modern Britain, and she is an author of three books, including Double Lives: A History of Working Motherhood (Bloomsbury, 2020), which was shortlisted for the Wolfson History Prize. As well as being shortlisted for the Wolfson History Prize Helen has been invited to be a judge of this year’s Wolfson award panel. The winner will be announced on 1st December 2026.
Before joining the University of Cambridge in September 2018, she taught at Queen Mary University of London for nine years.
Helens recent publications include essays on the life-writing of Fabian socialist Beatrice Webb, everyday life in Britain during Covid 19 and a Special Issue of Contemporary British History on British society, politics and culture in the 1990s (co-edited with David Geiringer).
