How do you figure out what a movie is supposed to sound like? What happens when a filmmaker has absolutely no musical vocabulary and starts saying things like “Can it feel a little more… lonely?” Is there such a thing as secret music math?!?!?

Basically, we’re going to keep asking composers to explain their witchcraft to us until we understand it. ———

Jordan Roper began playing piano at the age of seven, discovered a passion for composition by twelve, and began composing and producing music professionally shortly after graduating high school. His lifelong love of music and storytelling has led him to build a career of composition, film producing, and executive production. Jordan attended Brigham Young University–Idaho, where he earned a Bachelor of Musical Arts with an emphasis in composition, music theory, and piano performance. He later completed a Master of Music in Film and Television Composition through the Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program at the Seattle Film Institute. Since completing his studies, Jordan has composed original scores for dozens of short films and commercials, as well as several feature films along with also serving as an executive producer and producer on multiple film projects. In addition to his work in film, Jordan has taught master classes, worked as an orchestral and choral conductor, bringing his experience and passion for music to musicians and filmmakers alike. Jordan has been happily married to his beautiful wife, Haylie, for nearly 15 years, and together they have four children. He currently lives in the Boise, Idaho area and spends several weeks each year in Salt Lake City and Utah County, where he continues much of his film and music work.

Find Jordan on Instagram @jsroper23

Turns Out It’s the Apocalypse… We Think on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/turnsoutmovie/

Turns Out It’s the Apocalypse… We Think on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61581798639056

We’re Making a Movie is a podcast that follows the behind-the-scenes adventures of two first-time filmmakers, sharing honest insights and lessons learned to inspire others on their filmmaking journey.
