At the turn of the 20th century, Annie was a wealthy society woman living in Chicago when she came down with a head cold. She procured some OTC medication du jour, \"Dr Birney's Catarrhal Powder,\" unaware it contained mostly cocaine. Far from healed, Annie found herself blown into eight years of active addiction, and narrowly avoiding a deadly sanatorium fire!
Later in the episode, we begrudgingly dust off a flagrantly racist (redundant) New York Times article that influenced the passing of one of the United States' first drug prohibition laws, setting the stage for a torrent of racialized drug rhetoric to come. Plus, did we mention Cheth is back?
