The Baba Yaga is a mainstay of Slavic folklore. Occasionally portrayed as benevolent, she is however, most often evil, sly, and conniving. She seeks to ensnare wary travellers into being slave labour, or into the cooking pot. It takes, bravery,
cunning, intelligence, and more than a little luck to thwart her.
