December 1992, Lake Andes, South Dakota. A Chevy Monte Carlo skids on black ice and flips into a frozen ditch. Inside, 17-year-old Tracy Dion is trapped upside down, while Ruby Bruguier scrambles out into the darkness. Arnold Archambeau, the driver, is already gone.
