alcohol limit, speeding through a residential area in Texas before crashing into a group
of people helping a stranded motorist. The crash killed four people. Couch's case
became infamous after his defense argued that his wealthy, permissive
upbringing—dubbed \"affluenza\"—left him unable to understand the consequences of his
actions. Instead of prison, he initially received probation, sparking widespread public
outrage.
In March 2009, 16-year-old Justine Winter was speeding and illegally passing traffic on
a two-lane highway near Missoula, Montana, when she crossed the center line and
crashed head-on into another vehicle. The collision killed a woman who was eight
months pregnant and her 13-year-old son, devastating an entire family and leading to
Winter's conviction on multiple homicide charges.
