At the age of 34, Kazuko Fukuda committed a homicide and subsequently fled justice, managing to remain hidden for a long time, partly through the use of plastic surgery. The crime took place in 1982, at a time when murder charges in Japan had a statute of limitations of 15 years. Just as those 15 years were about to expire, Kazuko's luck ran out.
