A 28-year-old South Korean man was arrested at Jorge Chavez International Airport in Lima, Peru, for attempting to smuggle a large number of exotic creatures out of the country. The man had concealed more than 300 tarantulas, around 100 centipedes, and nine stinging bullet ants in small plastic bags, which he strapped to his body using two girdles. Airport security guards became suspicious due to the man's enlarged stomach area, leading to the discovery of the hidden animals. The animals were found in small ziploc bags with filter paper to keep them alive. The suspect was arrested, and the wildlife specimens were taken into safekeeping by the authorities. This incident highlights the issue of wildlife poaching, particularly for exotic pets, as tarantulas are vulnerable to poaching due to their long lifespan and late reproductive cycle[1][2]
