Thanks for sticking with us! Since we talked about anxiety in our last episode, which is a high-energy state, today we're talking about depression, which at it's core is a natural low-energy reaction state that shows up as a response to feeling overwhelmed, overtaxed, and not-enough for too long. But we can get stuck in what was intended to be a temporary state when the \"hop-ons\" pile on. We'll talk about when (and why) depression is helpful and how to know when it becomes unhelpful, including three key things to watch for: (1) are they threatening our safety (i.e. harm to self, lethal or non-lethal), (2) is it causing us distress? and (3) is it getting in the way of our ability function in important areas of our life? In other words, is being stuck in a depressive state getting in the way of living a meaningful life?</p><p>As always, thanks to our producer Erik for doing all the things, and a huge thanks to YOU for listening, liking, subscribing, following, downloading, and sharing our podcast with a friend!</p><p>Follow us on instagram at <a href=\"https://www.instagram.com/notgreathowareyoupod/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">@notgreathowareyoupod</a></p><p><br></p><blockquote>Very Important Book Recommendations:</blockquote><ul><li><a href=\"https://bookshop.org/p/books/no-bad-parts-healing-trauma-and-restoring-wholeness-with-the-internal-family-systems-model-richard-schwartz/16396062?ean=9781683646686&amp;gad_source=1&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQjw1um-BhDtARIsABjU5x6XJFT2VhTr_qbzZc51V4nQQgFxWJVr-u2VgelsZivBifs2JNpmhkQaAnSdEALw_wcB\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">No Bad Parts: Healing Trauma and Restoring Wholeness with the Internal Family Systems Model - Dr Richard Schwartz</a></li><li><a href=\"https://bookshop.org/p/books/the-happiness-trap-how-to-stop-struggling-and-start-living-second-edition-russ-harris/d35c672824b03d40?ean=9781645471165&amp;next=t&amp;gad_source=1&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQjw1um-BhDtARIsABjU5x4o43078dQDSwwmgQgyPPhSsSP-72h4fyxiw4hAlW0A0iq2wNY6w9gaAnM9EALw_wcB\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">The Happiness Trap: How to Stop Struggling and Start Living - Dr Russ Harris</a></li></ul><p><br></p><blockquote>Good, Short Reads (articles):</blockquote><ul><li><a href=\"https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/shouldstorm/202012/weve-got-depression-all-wrong-its-trying-to-save-us\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">\"We’ve Got Depression All Wrong.
