Since we’re halfway through October, we thought it would be only right that we watch some films that still freak us out. As we prepare for the Chicago International Film Festival and try to keep up with the new releases, we stuck to the theme this week. Hannah did add Scary Movie 3 to her rewatch list as a palate cleanser after watching this week’s four films. That movie made light of some top horror films from the early 2000s and still made Hannah laugh while watching it today.
We know we probably watched most of these films a little too early and without knowing exactly what we were getting into. The Ring left us terrified for weeks after watching it for the first time when we were in middle school and it still gives us the chills today. The same thing goes for Sinister. We went right to the theater to see this one when it came out and hid behind our popcorn boxes for most of the time. Even watching that film in the safety of our own homes today gave us a freaky feeling. We both agree that The Descent is probably the best made film out of the four. Even though this one is over 20 years old, it still really holds up and looks great. Finally, we have the 2006 remake ofThe Hills Have Eyes. We are curious about Wes Craven’s original, but this version ages like milk and was disappointing on many levels on the rewatch.
