We also were able to receive a screener for the film Union County which is having a special screening this weekend in Chicago. This film stars Will Poulter and Noah Centineo and follows two foster brothers who are navigating addiction and recovery in rural Ohio. Since we live in Ohio, this felt very familiar to us and we did think it felt realistic, especially since it featured real people from Union County going through a Drug Court program. We felt conflicted with this film because while it did feel true to life, it was also quite slow and the story didn’t bring anything new to the table. The performances from Poulter and Centineo were also good, but they didn’t really stand out overall. We do have a bit of a soft spot for this film though since it’s made by Ohio filmmaker, Adam Meeks!

Our theme this week is Partners in Crime and we cover a couple films we’ve never seen and one we could watch again and again. We have heard so much about True Romance over the years and it’s something that is often referenced in pop culture. Unfortunately, this film did not resonate with us at all and there was not one semblance of romance to be found. We were unaware that this was written by Tarantino and that fact became abundantly clear once we started watching this film. Like some of his other films, this did not age well in our eyes. We felt very similar about Léon: The Professional. You may recognize this one because it features a very young Natalie Portman, and we do agree that she does a great job in the role. This film has such a disturbing undertone (even though some of the darkest parts were edited out) and we really couldn’t get over it. The only bright spot with this theme is obviously, Thelma & Louise. We really don’t have the words to describe how wonderful this film is. Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon have the most amazing chemistry and were perfectly cast in these roles. It truly is a film that will stand the test of time and it deeply resonates with us as a symbol of female friendships.

If you love us, leave us comments on social media and YouTube, or write a review with your 5-star rating.
