I'm also planning an episode specifically on the difficulties in researching the Coldstream of 1815.

Many thanks to the fantastic help from the volunteers who read the extracts in this episode, especially the current and ex-members of the regiments involved: from the Coldstream Guards - Lt. Col. Charlie Foinette, Harry Bucknall, Ted Williams, and Ian Smith; from the Grenadier Guards - David O'Keefe; and from the Scots Guards - Michael Nutter.

Also Stuart Lyon, Paul Hayward, and John Saxon.

Many thanks also to Mick Crumplin - his excellent works on James George Guthrie can be found here https://www.amazon.co.uk/Guthries-War... . Mick's fascinating diagnosis of the case of Private John Lomax, mentioned in this episode is as follows:

\"Two possibilities here 1) five days after surgery, the amputation site on his arm probably became infected and he became septicaemic. being very debilitated with 2 months of illness and sepsis, the bacteria circulating in the blood stream lodged in his liver substance and an abscess formed, or 2) he had been a sufferer with amoebiasis, which is a serious complication of this intestinal parasitic infection (caused by entamoeba Histolytica), caused by the ingestion of contaminated food or water. A liver abscess is the most common extra-intestinal complication of the infestation.\"

Sincere thanks also to everyone who's sent kind messages and emails recently - I really appreciate them.

If anybody would like to read an extract or two for future episodes, please do get in touch: waterloopodcast@outlook.com
","author_name":"Andrew Baillie"}
