And that every 10 minutes, one woman or girl is killed by her intimate partner or family member.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>Armenia is no exception. This year alone, domestic violence cases shot up by 37%, according to the prosecutors’ office. The increase can be partly explained due to the lingering effects&nbsp;of war and forced displaced, but also the fact that more and more women are finding the courage to speak up and seek help.</p><p><br></p><p>The first group to offer survivors in Armenia shelter, psychological, legal support – and&nbsp;most importantly, empowerment –&nbsp;is the Women’s Support Center.</p><p><br></p><p>It was founded&nbsp;15 years ago by executive director Maro Matosian.</p><p><br></p><p>This episode is dedicated to the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (November 25-December 10).
