A generation ship built three million years in humanity’s future has come home, and its interior is made from the dead.
Paul Weaver has spent fifteen years recovering bodies from collapsed mines, ruptured stations, and industrial disasters. Nothing prepares him for the forty-kilometer vessel drifting near Jupiter. Its soil is compressed human bone. Its towering structures are cast from human remains. Across the landscape, immense autonomous machines grind, rebuild, and engrave the dead in an endless cycle whose original purpose has been almost erased.
As Weaver and a small survey team descend through the ship’s strata, they uncover generations of human change written directly into the terrain. The deeper they investigate, the clearer it becomes that this is not simply a derelict vessel or a failed machine system. Something deliberate survived here long after the last human life disappeared. Then the machines begin changing course toward them.
