Deputy U.S. Marshal Cal Ford has spent seventeen years trusting authenticated orders. Then a routine prisoner transport sends him to a federal courthouse that should not exist.
Inside the isolated Nevada facility, the transfer paperwork is wrong, the exits seal behind him, and the rules begin to contradict one another. Each new directive turns obedience into a trap. The armored creatures stationed beneath the courthouse do not care which order is impossible. They only know when someone has broken one.
Trapped with the cooperating witness he was ordered to deliver, Ford must navigate marked corridors, locked sublevels, and a command system designed to make everyone guilty. The deeper he goes, the less this looks like a rogue facility and the more it looks like a program built into the same federal machinery he has trusted his entire career.
To get his prisoner out alive, Ford must decide what lawful duty means when the chain of command itself may be the threat.
