An interstellar logging vessel arrives at the Helix Nebula, intending to strip-mine the colorful gas clouds for high-yield energy particles, only to find the nebula is a singular, bruised celestial organism. The harvesting lasers inadvertently lacerate the cosmic entity's membrane, causing it to bleed highly volatile, sentient radiation into the ship's ventilation shafts. This intelligent gas aggressively bonds with the ship's crew, physically turning their blood into superheated plasma and compelling them to dismantle the ship's hull piece by piece in order to use the metal as bandages for the wounded nebula.
