Randy Pace researched the 1890s Meadows/Bilyeu feud and wrote the definitive book on the subject: Blood Feud on Bull Creek. While feuds are part of the Ozarks stereotype, they also belong to Ozarks history, and when the Meadows/Bilyeu feud erupted in gunfire on May 28, 1898, three men fell dead. What's remarkable about the story is just how intertwined the two families were with marriages and children; there were Bilyeus that fought on the side of the Meadows and vice versa.
