The story of Roanoke continues as England makes a second attempt to establish a permanent colony in the New World—this time with families, children, and the hope of creating a lasting home across the Atlantic. Led by John White, the settlers arrive on Roanoke Island believing they are laying the foundation for a brighter future, but their journey is met with unsettling signs that history may be repeating itself. As supplies begin to dwindle and uncertainty grows, White is forced to make an impossible decision: leave the colony behind and return to England for help. What should have been a brief voyage soon becomes a years-long separation, as war with Spain prevents his return and leaves the colonists isolated in an unfamiliar land. In this second installment of our Roanoke series, we witness the optimism of a new beginning slowly transform into one of history's most heartbreaking farewells—a farewell that no one involved could have known would be their last.
