Troy Stecher plays the hero as the Toronto Maple Leafs defeat the New York Rangers 5-4 in a thrilling finish at Scotiabank Arena! Zack Phillips is live for another edition of Leafs Nation After Dark to break down Toronto's third consecutive victory, Stecher's last-minute game-winner, and a massive performance from the Maple Leafs' fourth line.
With the game tied 4-4 in the final minute of regulation, Stecher fired home the winning goal with just 26.3 seconds remaining to secure another two points for Toronto. Brandon Duhaime led the way with a goal and two assists, Teddy Blueger recorded a goal and an assist, and Zack MacEwen contributed two helpers as the Leafs received some much-needed secondary scoring. Easton Cowan and Kirill Marchenko also found the back of the net as Toronto improved to 6-4-2 on the season.
Zack breaks down the Maple Leafs' ability to battle through a back-and-forth game, their continued offensive production, and Sergei Bobrovsky making 21 saves to tie Henrik Lundqvist for the most career NHL wins by a goaltender born outside North America, with 459. We'll also discuss the performances of Auston Matthews, William Nylander and Gavin McKenna, along with Toronto's defensive play against a Rangers team featuring Mika Zibanejad, Alexis Lafrenière and Adam Fox.
Plus, Zack reacts to Jake McCabe returning after his injury scare against Columbus, Nick Blankenburg leaving the game following a heavy hit from Will Cuylle, and the ongoing impact of Chris Tanev and John Tavares being sidelined. Are the Maple Leafs finally finding their rhythm after a difficult start to the season, and what needs to improve as they prepare to face the Edmonton Oilers?
