Gavin McKenna delivers when the Toronto Maple Leafs need him most! The rookie scores his first career NHL game-winning goal as the Leafs defeat the San Jose Sharks 3-1, snapping their three-game losing streak at Scotiabank Arena! Zack Phillips is joined by Off the Roster host Dan Riccio for another edition of Leafs Nation After Dark to break down Toronto's much-needed victory and the biggest storylines from Game 10 of the 2026-27 NHL season.
After Mason Marchment opened the scoring for San Jose, Auston Matthews tied the game late in the second period before McKenna took over in the third, scoring a beautiful power-play goal to give Toronto the lead. Nick Paul added an empty-netter to seal the victory, while Matthews finished with a goal and two assists and Sergei Bobrovsky turned aside 30 of 31 shots to earn his first home win as a Maple Leaf.
Zack and Dan discuss McKenna's response following his controversial benching against Buffalo, his growing confidence under Jim Hiller, and what his game-winning goal means for his development. They'll also break down Toronto's special teams, with the power play scoring twice and the penalty kill going a perfect 4-for-4, and whether this was the complete team performance the Maple Leafs have been searching for.
Plus, they'll discuss Matthews' three-point night, Bobrovsky's strong performance, William Nylander's impact, and how Toronto handled Macklin Celebrini, Ivar Stenberg and the Sharks' talented young core. With John Tavares and Chris Tanev still sidelined, can the Maple Leafs build momentum from this victory as they prepare to face the Columbus Blue Jackets?
