The Toronto Maple Leafs nearly pull off another incredible comeback but fall 5-4 to the Utah Mammoth, and Zack Phillips is live for another edition of Leafs Nation After Dark to break down a frustrating night in Salt Lake City!
After falling behind 3-0 early in the second period, the Maple Leafs battled back but couldn't overcome a disastrous middle frame that saw Utah score four times. Auston Matthews and Jack Roslovic got Toronto on the board in the second period before John Tavares scored a power-play goal in his return to the lineup and Gavin McKenna added his second NHL goal to bring the Leafs within one in the third. Despite a late push with the extra attacker and a power-play opportunity in the final minutes, Toronto couldn't complete the comeback.
Former Maple Leafs forward Jay Rosehill joins Zack to break down the loss, Toronto's defensive struggles, Anthony Stolarz allowing five goals on 28 shots, and the team's inability to put together a complete 60-minute performance. They'll also discuss Tavares' impact in his return, McKenna extending his point streak to four games, and whether the Maple Leafs made the right decision moving the rookie off the top power-play unit.
Plus, Zack reacts to the performances of Auston Matthews, William Nylander and the rest of Toronto's forward group, the impact of Chris Tanev's absence on the blue line, and what needs to change as the Maple Leafs fall to 3-3-1 through their first seven games of the season.
