The war in&nbsp;Ukraine has now reached this&nbsp;situation.</p><p>While Russia claims to still be fighting the same war for the same reasons, it is poorer, weaker, with a staggering amount of casualties and a population&nbsp;increasingly disgruntled. Conversely, while the&nbsp;people of Ukraine are tired of war and of Russia’s malicious bombing of civilian targets, it remains united in its opposition to Russia’s claims upon its lands and people, and ever more inventive in its capabilities and international outreach.</p><p>To better understand these shifting realities and the position of Ukraine Ilana Bet-El is joined&nbsp;by Hanna Shelest, Director of&nbsp;Security Studies at Foreign Policy Council&nbsp;Ukrainian Prism, and Yuliia Shaipova, Affiliated Expert at Ukrainian Prism. A deep and flowing conversation with many important insights!</p><p>This episode was recorded on 19 May 2026</p><p><strong>Chapters</strong></p><ul><li>What changed in the battlefield dynamics?</li><li>Evolutions inside Ukraine and current political landscape</li><li>The impact of the Middle-East war on Ukraine</li><li>Perceptions of EU accession and future aspirations</li><li>How could the negotiations progress?</li></ul><p><strong>Mentions</strong></p><ul><li><a href=\"https://prismua.org/en/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Ukrainian Prism</a></li><li><a href=\"https://www.gov.uk/government/speeches/evidence-shows-russia-continues-to-incur-catastrophic-losses-for-minimal-gains-in-an-unsustainable-war-uk-statement-to-the-osce\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Russian losses</a></li><li>Timothy Garton Ash,&nbsp;<a href=\"https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/62347050-homelands\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Homelands: A Personal History of Europe</a></li><li><a href=\"https://europeanleadershipnetwork.org/multimedia/the-women-leaders-podcast-bad-plans-come-unstuck/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Hanna’s previous Women Leaders episode</a>&nbsp;(November 2025)</li></ul><p><strong>Follow</strong></p><ul><li>Hanna Shelest&nbsp;<a href=\"https://www.notion.so/178e3816b9ab814baee2c896aecf75e9?pvs=21\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">LinkedIn</a></li><li>Yuliia Shaipova&nbsp;<a href=\"https://www.linkedin.com/in/yuliia-shaipova-147422111/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">LinkedIn</a></li><li><a href=\"https://www.linkedin.com/in/ilana-bet-el-5a5bb78?originalSubdomain=be\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Ilana Bet-El</a></li><li>Instagram&nbsp;<a href=\"https://www.instagram.com/women_leaders_podcast/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">@women_leaders_podcast</a></li><li>Listen to this episode on our&nbsp;<a href=\"https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiAEHRwzx19sgFbvKxjVQQQ\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">YouTube channel</a></li><li>Our partner European Leadership Network&nbsp;<a href=\"https://twitter.com/@theELN\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Twitter</a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https://www.linkedin.com/company/european-leadership-network-for-multilateral-nuclear-disarmament-and-non-proliferation\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">LinkedIn</a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https://www.facebook.com/europeanleadershipnetwork\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook</a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https://www.europeanleadershipnetwork.org/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">website</a></li></ul><p><strong>Credits</strong></p><ul><li>Production:&nbsp;<a href=\"https://www.linkedin.com/in/florence-ferrando-8ab809a7/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Florence Ferrando</a></li><li>Music: Let Good Times Roll, RA from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!):&nbsp;<a href=\"https://uppbeat.io/t/ra/let-good-times-roll\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">https://uppbeat.io/t/ra/let-good-times-roll</a>License code: ZXIIIJUU2ISPZIJT</li></ul>","author_name":"Women Leaders - European Leadership Network"}
