Just in case any loser Streamer Shills are listening in and want to say your counter points, here are 5 I’ve already heard
Q1: But DVDs have ads in them?
A: Yeah at the beginning, and most of them you can skip. There’s not Midroll Ads in my copy of Paper Towns, also there are ads on Ad Free Streamers now too so there's no winning. At least this way you can watch Bonus Features and play games sometimes after the ad.
Q2: Buying second hand doesn’t count because that’s not market cost. If you were doing this market cost it would be completely different
A: Insane mindset for starters, but also, isn’t that the point of buying something? To own? And then have the freedom to sell if you want? Also, some of these movies you can’t buy new because they don’t print them. This is like me saying I bought a 2013 BMW and you saying “Why didn’t you just buy that exact car off a lot new for more money or just get a different car”
Q3: Sure but you can’t get STREAMING SERVICE Originals on DVD so what’s the point?
A: That is actually a gigantic problem and I don’t know why you are blaming me for that. Imagine if after Star Wars came out they didn’t add it to a streamer and you had to always go to the movie theater to see it. This was the world in real life until we invented physical media and now that’s the argument you are making.
Q4: I can barely afford one bedroom and the things I have right now, I don't have the space to set up another bookshelf or extra money/space to buy additional furniture just for this new hobby.
A: This is absolutely fair and valid. I will say though, if you are willing to spend $100+ a month on all these streamers maybe you can think about slowly upgrading your television set up.I'd hope you would want to start getting some quality of life updates to the things you enjoy and are spending your time doing. That being said though, space is hard and the economy is wack! I personally don't care too much about the cases or artwork too much, so we keep all our movies in Disc Binders. (if you are a physical movie person who thinks that's crazy and bad you should stop gatekeeping this hobby you keep telling people to try) We have had our collection in a big 400 disc binder for 10 years and so far so good!
Q5: I wouldn't be able to keep track of all the movies I like! And how would I know what I own when I'm out? It's easier to just have what Netflix has
A: You're right, it is easier to give away all of your Autonomy and free will to a corporation. I get it, that's the point of the Algorithm forced on every app on your Internet Flashlight Super Pocket Computer. However, you can also use that Super Computer to keep track of what you own! You can do this in the default notes app, or there are all kinds of Apps that can help you keep track of it all. I should have mentioned this in the episode but I use the free My Movies App from Blu-Ray to keep track of the movies I own, but there are other options available both free and paid if there's one that fits your style best!
