It's very unclear when the Avesta, the holy scriptures of the Zoroastrians, began to first be written. What is clear is that they offer us our first known glimpses of a revealed faith and of a radical religious reformer, namely Zarathustra, called Zoroaster by the ancient Greeks. This priest of the ancient Irano-Aryan faith turned away from the traditional practices of his people and began to preach about the one god, Ahura Mazda, and the great spiritual battle he fights against the forces of darkness. It is the duty of every human being to speak the truth and do right so that evil may be defeated.
Also, it's a sin to kill a hedgehog or an otter. No, really.
