Kim Chiu’s Catholic journey started with her mom. They would pray the rosary every night and until now, she does not end her day without praying. After her family went bankrupt and her mom died, their family had to jump from city to city every year because of their dad’s job. And then, Pinoy Big Brother happened. All she wanted was to win enough money so that she and her siblings will have money to enroll. But God had bigger plans for her. “Ang galing ng ginawa ni God para sa’min. I realized, lahat talaga may reason bakit nangyari ’yun.” On top of the challenges of the pandemic, the last year has been especially difficult for Kim as she began to be mocked for her “Bawal Lumabas” statement. It was also last year when their car got ambushed and miraculously left her and her companions unscathed from the bullets fired. “Nung na-bash ako, nagtampo talaga ako kay Lord, kinwestiyon ko siya. I was not eating, I stopped praying the rosary…until someone, may stranger na ’di namin kilala, na gusto gawan ng kanta ’yung ‘Bawal Lumabas.’ I knew it was the Lord, nagse-send siya ng mga tao around us to help us.”
