During our 2026 summer retreat, we gave attention to this beloved psalm.
Before David became king over Israel, he was a shepherd boy. In the fields, he gained firsthand knowledge of the skill, vigilance, courage, and care required to tend sheep, which prepared him to lead a nation. Drawing on that experience, David presents the LORD as the expert and faithful Shepherd of His people.
Psalm 23 reminds us that the LORD provides for our souls, protects us from ultimate harm, and preserves us until He has brought us safely home to heaven.
May we learn to trust Him more fully and walk with Him more faithfully, knowing that there is no better place to be than under His good and perfect shepherding care.
