Scott Twine's perfectly flighted free kick was converted by McNally's deft touch and it proved to be the decisive strike in a game City deserved to win by a more convincing scoreline.
Derby were a more savvy side than recent opponents at Ashton Gate and twice in the first half City had to rely on instinctive saves from Max O'Leary to prevent a goal.
City were in control throughout the 2nd half and their game management in the closing stages deserves praise for the way they effectively mothered the ball by the corner flag!
Jason Knight must have covered every blade of grass on the Ashton Gate turf with a hugely energetic display.
