There's fabricated prisoners, a bail fund that never bailed anyone out, a $19,000 closet renovation, shipping containers in New Mexico, and a founder who walked away with a paid-off apartment... but the narrative solely wants to bury Dominique. With stuff like this we need to be asking harder questions, and being honest about about what 2020's funding surge actually did to organizations/people that lack the structure and psychology to manage that kind of cash windfall (lottery winner vibes tbh). Also, the psychology of financial crime, and the invisible psychological damage that prisons impart on people. I want us to hold both things at once: the harm that was done to the people this money was supposed to reach, and the very human, very complicated reasons why this might have happened.
