It was her <a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debut_novel\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">debut novel</a>. Based on a short story Rice wrote around 1968, the novel centers on vampire <a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_de_Pointe_du_Lac\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Louis de Pointe du Lac</a>, who tells the story of his life to a reporter. Rice composed the novel shortly after the death of her young daughter Michelle, who served as an inspiration for the child-vampire character <a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claudia_(The_Vampire_Chronicles)\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Claudia</a>. Though initially the subject of mixed critical reception, the book was followed by many widely popular sequels, collectively known as <a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Vampire_Chronicles\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Vampire Chronicles</em></a>. A <a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interview_with_the_Vampire_(film)\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">film adaptation</a> was released in 1994, starring <a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Cruise\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Cruise</a> and <a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brad_Pitt\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Brad Pitt</a>, and a <a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interview_with_the_Vampire_(TV_series)\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">television series</a> premiered in 2022. The novel has also been adapted as a comic three times.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>“<strong>Our discussion will touch on the potential sexual assault depicted in the book, murder, and other heavier topics.
