What does it actually look like to live as someone who has been made new?
In Colossians 3, Paul gives us a picture of the transformed Christian life by telling us to βput onβ a new way of living. Like adding layers as the seasons change, we are called to clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, then hold it all together with love.
But this isn't about simply trying harder to become a better person. These qualities flow from knowing who we already are in Christ. We are chosen. We are dearly loved. That identity becomes the foundation for genuine humility, and from that humility, the other layers of Christlike character begin to take shape.
Paul also challenges the divisions we use to separate ourselves from others. Race, religion, culture, social status, and other differences lose their power when we recognize that our identity is ultimately found in Christ.
The message is both simple and challenging: if we have been raised to new life in Christ, we ought to live like it.
