Sofia and her husband started Fzin after realising just how much waste traditional coffee pods create. Billions of plastic and aluminium capsules end up in landfill every year, and research now suggests they may even contribute to microplastics finding their way into our daily coffee.

Wanting to do something about it, Sofia took the skills she’d built over years of project managing for big companies and poured them into building something of her own, a business that could actually make a difference.The result is a plant-based coffee pod that’s been carefully developed through a huge amount of research and testing. It’s designed to give people the convenience they love, but in a way that’s much kinder to the planet (and to us too). Their work is getting a lot of recognition, with Fzin up for several awards again this year. In our chat, Sofia shares the story of leaving the corporate world to step into entrepreneurship, the reality of trying to innovate in a very traditional industry, and why tackling the coffee pod waste problem matters so much. We also talk about balance, how she manages such a strong work ethic while still making time for movement, exercise, and connecting with friends along the way. A real 'woman changing the world', just as her recent award nomination suggests.
","author_name":"Kara O Donnell"}
