Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has won re-election, defeating Senator Flávio Bolsonaro in the presidential runoff held on October 25, 2026.
According to Brazil’s electoral authorities, Lula received 51.79% of the valid votes, compared with Bolsonaro’s 48.21%. The result marks Lula’s fourth presidential election victory, following his earlier terms from 2003 to 2010 and his return to office in 2023.
The outcome represents a dramatic turnaround. Bolsonaro had finished ahead of Lula in the first round on October 4, but Lula regained ground during the three-week campaign leading up to the runoff. His campaign mobilised supporters through public rallies, grassroots organising and social media outreach.
