A senior official from Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is assuming a top leadership role at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), granting DOGE direct authority over an agency it has actively worked to dismantle, according to an email obtained by The Associated Press.
Pete Marocco, a Trump administration appointee and deputy head of USAID, disclosed the leadership shift in an email to State Department staff. The move follows Marocco and DOGE's oversight of an 83 percent reduction in USAID contracts, with the remaining programs folded into the State Department.
