Born in Essex and raised in Leeds, Jane Dennison came to Manchester in the mid-noughties to start her life again.
Homeless at 16, married at 18 and a single Mum aged 21, it’s no wonder Jane spent most of her early life overcoming significant mental health problems.
Fast forward 20 years and Jane is now a social entrepreneur; a CEO of the charity she founded in 2017, the Mile Shy Club. With a primary focus on running beginners, the charity has ambitious plans to expand into all 10 Manchester boroughs in the next few years. Currently, Trafford, Salford and Manchester are serviced by 15 clubs and the club’s motto of “no one gets left behind” ensures that everyone gets access to affordable, accessible, inclusive exercise.
Jane is also the Trustee Chair of the charity, the Trafford Community Collective, which represents the voice of the voluntary and community sector in Trafford, and she’s also a non-Exec Director of Beyond Empower C.I.C which supports disabled people to lead healthy, active lives.
