When we think about environmental toxins, we often think about the things in our immediate environments, many of which would mean the home, what we put on our body, or what we eat.
This week, I’m introducing you to a wonderful guest and we're talking about the environmental toxins in our rivers. Just a few generations ago, we could drink from our rivers and our guest today is going to unpack this issue for us and her quest to make our rivers drinkable once again.
Li An Phoa is an activist, author, filmmaker, and philosopher. She founded the Drinkable Rivers movement, now in 25 countries! She has walked 21,000km along rivers, gathering momentum from all walks of like who, together, ask the simple question: How can we once again have drinkable rivers?
Li An’s 1000 kilometre walk along the river Meuse was the subject of the documentary ‘Long Walk for Drinkable Rivers’. She has co-written the book ‘Drinkable Rivers: How the River Became My Teacher’ (2023) and is the protagonist in the documentary film ‘Our Blue World’ (2024). www.drinkablerivers.org
