Previously on Conquest Of The Stars, Lydia Thompson, Third Prime of the Directorate, one of the five great corporations that has divided all of explored space between them, has taken up residence on Magnum-4, the most isolated planet in all of explored space. The other Primes want her either back on Earth Prime or to abdicate her position with the Directorate. To that end, they have sent a Junior Executive named Harry Salem to convince her to do one or the other. Sensing some kind of ploy, Lydia asks her lover, Steve Somerset, if they can put Harry up on Steve's estate in order to jerk him around. Steve is all in for a good joke. Harry has never been off of Earth before and very early on discovers that he hates space travel.
