Enabling communication among 24 languages for the biggest multilingual Parliament in the world is an exciting but complicated task. It’s difficult to grasp the details of how our work is organised and who does exactly what and this goes not only for people outside the profession but sometimes for young interpreters and students too. Just before the end of the Spanish presidency, we got together with four experienced interpreters working with Spanish at the European Parliament and we focused on the everyday aspects of our work, like what language A, B and C mean, why it is essential to prepare your meetings, and how working from a passive language is different from working into this language actively.
