On this week's episode of Local Legends Martin chats with a celebrated New Hampshire-based folklorist, author, and entrepreneur, who has spent over two decades preserving and sharing the region's mysterious history, Roxie Zwicker.
As a folklorist, Zwicker’s work focuses on documenting the oral histories, legends, and paranormal accounts that define the cultural landscape of the Northeast. She has authored over nine books detailing regional history and hauntings, and her published works include popular titles like Haunted Portsmouth, Ghost Stories of the Piscataqua, and New England's Ghostly Haunts.
Roxie’s tour company New England Curiosities was founded in 2002, and through it Roxie offers award-winning historical and ghost walking tours, primarily based in New Hampshire. She has received numerous accolades and has appeared on major television networks like the Travel Channel and the History Channel.
With what appears to be boundless energy, Roxie also channels her love for the mystical into her physical and online shop, and, because, somehow, she finds the time, to connect with a broader, global audience, Roxie launched her popular podcast and radio show Wicked Curious Radio, roughly weekly and across 100 episodes she offers deep-dives into strange history, occult practices, and bizarre folklore from New Hampshire and New England to beyond.
