World Refugee Day is an international day designated by the <a href=\"https://www.un.org/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">United Nations</a> to acknowledge the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>Joining us today is <a href=\"http://danieltrmasterson.com/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Daniel Masterson,</a> from the University of California, who will talk about his recently published paper in the British Journal of Political Science:&nbsp;<a href=\"https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/british-journal-of-political-science/article/dynamics-of-refugee-return-syrian-refugees-and-their-migration-intentions/CE4037C22F465A7BC284CEE7D5183822\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Dynamics of Refugee Return: Syrian Refugees and their Migrant Intention</em></a>. In this paper, Daniel and his co-authors, Ala Alrababah, Marine Casalis, Dominik Hangartner, and Jeremy Weinstein,&nbsp;look at what makes Syrian refugees in Jordan and Lebanon decide to return home.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>Then, we'll hear from <a href=\"https://www.gu.se/om-universitetet/hitta-person/isabellschierenbeck\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Isabell Schierenbeck</a> and <a href=\"https://www.gu.se/om-universitetet/hitta-person/andreaspehar\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Andrea Spehar</a> from the University of Gothenburg. They have looked at street-level bureaucrats in and Syrian refugee interactions in Sweden, Jordan, and Turkey.&nbsp;They have a book in Swedish publish on this work, called <a href=\"https://www.bokus.com/bok/9789144143569/migration-i-valfardsstaten-att-implementera-integrationspolitik/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Migration i välfärdsstaten: att implementera integrationspolitik</em></a><em>,</em> (English translation: <em>Migration in the Welfare State: To Implement Integration Politics</em>).</p><p><br></p>","author_name":"GLD"}
