New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia experienced severe flooding in the late spring months in a La Nina event. Recorded at the end of the 2023-2023 Australian summer, five people from different areas along the flooded regions provide their stories from this tragedy. These stories cover how floods have impacted them and their communities as well as their thoughts on how we can learn from these events. Australia's flooding can be a contentious topic and these experiences don't necessarily reflect the thoughts of the Water Justice Hub, but they do account for how people are left feeling in the wake of a disaster like this.</p><p><br></p><p>Guests</p><p><a href=\"https://www.instagram.com/ettrickfarms/?hl=en\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Prue Milgate</a>: Agri-industry advocate, Grain and Livestock Farmer in Serpentine, who received flooding downstream from the Loddon River</p><p><a href=\"https://www.mid-murray.sa.gov.au/council/elected-members/Bailey,-Simone\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Simone Bailey</a>: Mayor of the Mid Murray council, an area that received flooding from the Murray River</p><p><a href=\"https://www.regionalcitiesnsw.org.au/our-team-1/cr-dallas-tout\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Dallas Tout</a>: Mayor of Wagga Wagga, which received flooding from the Murrumbidgee River</p><p>Bill Twigg: Regenerative Agricultural Sheep Farmer who received flooding from the Loddon River</p><p><a href=\"https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-05-20/boort-historian-turns-own-shed-into-indigenous-museum/100920228\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Paul Haw</a>: First Nations Cultural Heritage Museum caretaker and Local to Boort, a lakeside town that received flooding from the Loddon River</p><p><br></p><p>This Podcast is hosted by<a href=\"https://crawford.anu.edu.au/people/academic/katherine-taylor\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"> Kat Taylor</a> and Produced by Tim Whiffen of<a href=\"http://whimsyproductions.com/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"> Whimsy Productions</a> for <a href=\"https://crawford.anu.edu.au/people/academic/quentin-grafton\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Quentin Grafton</a>, Convenor of the Water<a href=\"https://waterjusticehub.org/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"> Justice Hub</a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"http://unescochair.crawford.anu.edu.au.virtual.anu.edu.au/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">UNESCO Chair in Water Economics and Transboundary Water Governance</a> at the <a href=\"https://www.anu.edu.au/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Australian National University</a>.</p><p><a href=\"https://www.waterjusticehub.org/the-water-justice-and-security-endowment-fund/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Donate to the Water Justice Hub: https://www.waterjusticehub.org/the-water-justice-and-security-endowment-fund/</a></p>","author_name":"Water Justice Hub"}
