Verse 11 does not ask us to put on a fake smile or pretend that suffering doesn't hurt. It plainly acknowledges reality: "No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful." God does not ask us to pretend the pain isn't real. But pain without purpose breeds bitterness, while pain with a Gospel purpose produces a future harvest of righteousness and peace.

An athlete endures the exhaustion of daily workouts because his eyes are fixed on the podium. As believers, we can keep enduring because we know that the current pain is temporary, but the spiritual harvest God is producing in us will last forever. Yield to the process and let Him train your heart.

Prayer

Father, I admit that my current season feels painful and uncomfortable. Give me the grace not to waste this trial. Train my heart through this circumstance so that it produces a rich harvest of spiritual maturity, righteousness, and peace in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Today's Practice

Identify one specific area of character (such as patience, trust, or humility) that God is cultivating in you through your current difficulty.
","author_name":"Various"}
