Punishment looks backward at a past offense to inflict a penalty. Training looks forward to future growth to produce maturity. Because Jesus took the full condemnation for our sins at Calvary, God is not paying you back for your past mistakes. Your legal debt is completely paid.

Now, every trial God allows in your life is forward-looking. He is building spiritual muscle, refining your character, and training you so that you may share in His holiness. Stop looking backward asking, "Why is God paying me back?" The Gospel allows us to look forward and ask, "Lord, what are You transforming in me through this?"

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You that You took my full condemnation on the Cross so that I will never face God's punitive wrath. Shift my perspective today. Help me see my current hardships not as punishment, but as Fatherly conditioning designed for my good. Amen.

Today's Practice

When an old guilt or mistake comes to mind today, replace the thought with: "Jesus bore my penalty; God is training my future."
","author_name":"Various"}
