Though made in the '80s, most American viewers probably wouldn't have seen it until the early 2000s after the end of the massively popular sequel series Dragon Ball Z. Akira Toriyama's original work is a little bit different than what the franchise would go on to be known for, but it's an interesting case study into anime, Japanese gag manga, western cartoon influences and more.
