Waggie is in the hot seat this week with Russ away, meaning Steve gets to monopolise all the pods! We’re also joined by fan debutant (sort of) Shazz, aka Paul from Stockport Gin.
There’s plenty to get stuck into after the brilliant, chaotic 3–4 defeat to Leicester. We talk about the obvious concern at the back and whether conceding so many goals is becoming a problem, but also the other side of the equation — McNulty Ball has County looking like they can score every time they go forward. Can we really keep playing with that style and intensity for the whole season?
We then look ahead to Saturday’s trip to Sheffield Wednesday. Can County bounce back? What have we made of Wednesday’s start to the season, how do we beat them and should Dave Challinor make changes or stick with what we know?
After eight games, County sit on four wins and four defeats, with 16 goals scored and 10 conceded. We take a quick look at what those numbers tell us and ask whether County need to find a bit more consistency — and, most importantly, how we tighten things up without losing the attacking threat.
There’s also a brief discussion about the competition formerly known as the Vertu Trophy, which has apparently been renamed. We’re calling it the Magic Mike Trophy. Obviously.
With the international break approaching, we also discuss who might get called up, whether international selections could lead to games being postponed and whether County might actually get a weekend off.
Finally, we have another go at Rival, the football app that gives us a random historic game involving County’s next opponents. This time it’s MK Dons away in 2023, with three rounds to tackle: guess the score, name the line-up and guess the goalscorers. Three lives. No excuses.
