Mark Carney’s government is reviewing Canada’s Labour Code, and one of the biggest questions on the table is the right to strike.
In recent years, the federal government has increasingly used Section 107 to intervene in strikes involving workers in industries like rail, airlines, and the postal service. Now, employers are pushing for new rules that could give the government more tools to prevent major work stoppages in the first place.
So what could change? Why do employers want it? What do unions think? And if the government already has Section 107, why rewrite the Labour Code at all?
